Do Tattoos Hold Energy? A Thoughtful Perspective

Do Tattoos Hold Energy? A Thoughtful Perspective  Word Tattoo Illuminated In Neon Red

Have you ever thought about the energy behind something as everyday as tattoos?

Not in an extreme or dramatic way.
Just in a quiet, curious sense of…“I wonder if there’s more to it than just the design?”

I was listening to an episode of ‘A Psychic’s Story’ podcast recently that explored this idea that tattoos hold energy, and it really made me pause and reflect.

Because when you think about it…a tattoo isn’t just an image, it’s symbolic.

It’s a moment.
A decision.
A feeling.

Captured in the body.

It’s not just what it is… it’s when you chose it

Most people don’t get a tattoo randomly – although there are a few that have.

There’s usually something behind it.

A time in your life.
An emotion you were feeling.
A version of yourself you were stepping into… or trying to hold onto.

And when you look at it that way, it opens up a slightly different perspective.

Not “this has meaning because someone told me it does” but “This meant something to me at the time.”

A slightly deeper layer: the body holds experience

There’s also another way of looking at this, which comes from traditions like Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In this view, the body isn’t just physical.
It also carries energy – often described as flowing through pathways called meridians.

These pathways are thought to support the natural flow of energy through the body.

So when something affects the body physically – like a tattoo, a scar, or even an

injury – some healers & practitioners believe it may also influence that flow.

Not in a dramatic way… but in a subtle one

This doesn’t mean something is “wrong” or “damaged”.

It’s much more subtle than that.

Think of it more like:

A shift
A change
An interruption or redirection

Sometimes that can feel neutral.
Sometimes even positive – especially if the experience itself felt empowering or meaningful or in the event that an injury or scar is being altered by the tattoo.

And other times, if something happened during a stressful or emotional period, it might carry a slightly heavier association.

Scars, tattoos, and memory

This idea isn’t limited to tattoos.

You could think about scars or injuries in the same way.

Have you ever noticed how certain parts of your body seem to hold a story?

A place where something happened.
A moment that left an impression.

Again, not something to overanalyse – just something to gently notice.

So… do tattoos affect your energy?

Rather than seeing this as something fixed or absolute, it can be helpful to come back to your own experience.

Not what you’ve been told.
Not what you “should” believe.

But what you feel.

  • How do you feel about it when you notice it?
  • What does it represent to you now?
  • Has that meaning changed over time?

Because ultimately, your relationship with it matters more than any external idea.

And what if your meaning has changed?

You’re not the same person you were when you made that decision.

You’ve grown.
Shifted.
Seen life differently.

So if something no longer feels aligned, that doesn’t mean it was wrong. It just means you’ve evolved.

A grounded way to hold all of this

You don’t need to believe that tattoos or scars are “good” or “bad” for your energy.

But you might begin to notice:

  • What feels aligned for me now?
  • What feels like it belongs to a past version of me?
  • What still feels meaningful?

Not to judge it.
Just to understand it.

Because this isn’t really about tattoos…

It’s about something deeper.

The connection between your body, your experiences, and your awareness.

The way your life leaves impressions – physically, emotionally, & energetically.

And how, when you slow down and notice, you begin to understand yourself on a deeper level.

Take time to reflect

If this has sparked something for you, just take a moment to notice:

Is there anything your body is holding that you’ve never really paused to listen to?

You don’t need to figure it all out.
Just becoming aware is enough.

And often, it’s in these quiet moments of noticing that your intuition begins to speak more clearly.

My Shift

I’ve never felt the urge to have a tattoo, I’ve often wondered why, especially at a time when there’s a huge rise in the numbers of people having a tattoo as well as a shift to them being so much more acceptable.

I believe very strongly in the meridians of the body – I am a Reiki Master & teacher after all…I also believe that symbols or sigils have an energy of their own & so when we draw or invoke that symbol or sigil, it means something. Think of Runes.

Many Reiki practitioners have the Reiki symbols tattooed, again, I’ve never felt drawn to do this, I understand those that do this, so no judgement here.

The podcast I listened to was so interesting & made me think about tattoos & their affects on our energy, I’m not sure I’ll ever view them the same way.

If you’d like to listen to the podcast and see what comes up for you, you’ll find it here.

I’m still not going to rush out & have a tattoo, however, it has given me food for thought around energy, intention & the impact we can have on it.

I love to learn & I hope that I will always be curious, I prefer not to be fixed in my thinking, so if something like this comes along that builds my knowledge & allows me to shift my beliefs & perspectives, I enjoy sharing it with you. Remember, we’re all on our own voyage of discovery.

If you’d like to come and join us in my Facebook group, we can share the voyage, swap beliefs & share the wisdom. Join me in the group.
